  • Life coaching is a practice of helping clients determine and achieve personal goals. A coach uses multiple methods to help clients with the process of setting and reaching goals. Coaching is not targeted at psychological illness, and coaches are neither therapists nor consultants.
  • Life coaching has roots in executive coaching, which itself draws on techniques developed in management consulting and leadership training. Life coaching also draws from disciplines including sociology, psychology, positive adult development, career counseling, mentoring, and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). The coach applies goal-setting and other techniques in helping their clients.
  • During the coaching process the client is in control, in the sense that they are responsible for keeping the appointment with the coach, for taking ownership of their own goals and to committing entirely to the coaching process. Both coach and client commit to a relationship of trust and complete confidentiality.
  • Coaching is essentially an exchange between client and coach, whereby the coach asks the client questions pertaining to the goal and, using simple tools and methodology, enables the client to see their own best course of action in order to achieve that goal. A coach does not give advice, rather the non-judgemental, non 'agenda-based' approach of the coach allows the client to find clarity in their own situation and to move forward productively.
The doors we open and close each day determine the lives we live.
